Principal Message - November 1, 2024

It is hard to believe that the month of November is already here. An important reminder for November 3 as we end Daylight Savings Time by turning our clocks back 1 hour. November as well marks the time in the school year where patterns of attendance, habits of school work and homework are established. Students that are continually late for school, are not prepared for class and are not focused in class must focus on changing these critical behaviors that are the basis of a student’s success at school. Students and families at Ted Harrison have demonstrated their commitment to “being a student first” as evident by the positive environment we are experiencing at school each day.

Each year schools are required to practice fire drills and lock down drills. These safety drills are very important and need to be treated as such by students. I want to compliment our students for taking these drills seriously as this supports safety for all folks within the Ted Harrison community. If you are coming to the school as a parent/guardian during a fire drill or lockdown we ask that you leave the school parking lot and the streets adjacent to the school clear. Although we hope on all occasions that the drill is for practice, we would need to keep the area around the school open for emergency responders should it be an emergency.

The school attempted to hold a Parent Association/School Council meeting this week.  The turn out was minimal. We will publicize a meeting for late January 2025. Please consider attending this meeting to see how you can support programming at Ted Harrison School.

Grade 6 and Grade 9 will be receiving vaccinations on November 7. Please have your student in attendance this day as it is important that students eligible for vaccinations receive them on this date.

Parent / Teacher interviews are the evening of November 28 and during the day of November 29. There will be an ability for parents to sign up for appointments in the middle of November. Please pay attention and sign up when registration becomes available.  Your child’s teacher would love to see you and discuss your child’s successes and areas that they are currently focusing on.

This will be the last Principal Message before the school November break. Friday, November 8 is a non-instructional day (students do not attend), followed by November 11-13 as school closure. Students return to school on Thursday, November 14. Your child’s teacher would love to see you and discuss your child’s successes and areas that they are currently focusing on.

I want to thank students, staff, families, and the community for your support of Ted Harrison School. Please do not hesitate to reach out and connect with comments or questions that you might have.

Sincerely,

Dr. Don Barbor
