One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

Why actively participate in the School Council: By actively participating in school council meetings and its activities, you will not only take part in the development of your own child but can also play in growth of other children. It is a good opportunity to meet other parents and develop social connections. The membership to the School Council is free.
Who can become a Member of the School Council: The parents/guardians of the students currently studying at Ted Harrison School can become members of the School Council. At the beginning of a school calendar year, parents’ representatives for the school council are elected. The elected members convey parents’ feedback and views to the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on important school matters. The School Council consists of school principal, elected parents, a teachers’ representative and community member/s who work together to provide advice to the Principal and the CBE Board for matters concerning students’ growth and community development.
School Council Meetings: During a school calendar, the School Council meets once a month at a designated time, usually 6:30 PM, at the Ted Harrison School Library, and the meetings are open to all parents/guardians of the students currently studying at Ted Harrison School.
