Although the last few weeks have offered us some intense winter weather, the beginning of March signifies that Spring may be just around the corner. I wanted to send out a message to parents celebrating your student’s success in Semester #1. I hope that families review students’ schoolwork throughout the year. Report card review is a particularly important opportunity to discuss what is going well, what students feel successful about, what factors contribute to that success and what are the goals for future growth. Assessment reporting through the Report Card process should offer an opportunity for celebration and should inform next steps in learning. Ted Harrison School has established an Honor Roll for students with very high achievement. If your student achieved Honor Roll status, congratulations, this is a very difficult level of achievement to attain. Above Honor Roll, Ted Harrison School celebrated with four students who achieved Honors with Distinction. This level of Achievement is exceptional and requires students to achieve 4’s in almost every course. All students were recognized in a school assembly and received certificates acknowledging their success.

As a school we continue to struggle with student lates. These lates are both in the morning and after lunch. We also have several students that do not attend their classes promptly or leave class and do not return. The amount of lost learning time and the distraction caused by these behaviors is a concern. Ted Harrison School Administration will be issuing lunch detentions for students that are late or leave class without teacher permission. Parents will receive a notice indicating that their student will be expected to attend a lunch detention the following day. Students are expected to be in the detention; should they miss detention they may be suspended and upon return to school to serve the detention. A significant indicator of student success is their attendance in class.

At Ted Harrison school we expect all students to be in class on time and prepared with all the materials necessary for class. If students can consistently do this, hand in all assigned work to the best of their ability and seek support from teachers when they are confused or do not understand course material all students should receive twos on the report card. Teacher / Parent / Student Conference bookings will open soon. Please book a time to come in with your students to discuss their school progress.

Thank you for your continued support.
