Overflow for Ted Harrison to Sherwood School

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to inform that Ted Harrison School is over capacity and will not be able to accommodate any additional students who live within the designated school boundary for the 2023-24 school year and beyond. As a result, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) will introduce a cap on enrolment at Ted Harrison School and designate an overflow school.

Effective immediately, all new registrations for Ted Harrison School, including new registrations in SchoolEngage, will be overflowed to Sherwood School:

  • Sherwood School is in the community of Ogden at 2011 66 Ave SE Calgary, AB, T2C 1J4, phone 403-777-7590

All Grade 5 to Grade 9 students who live in the Ted Harrison School boundary area and attend the overflow school, Sherwood School, will be placed on a call-back list and offered a place at Ted Harrison School if space becomes available.

No Changes for Current Students at Ted Harrison School

Current Grade 5 to Grade 9 students attending Ted Harrison School or students already accepted to Ted Harrison School for the 2023-24 school year will remain at the school for the 2023-24 school year, provided they do not move out of the school boundary.

Overflow designation for Ted Harrison School regular program students for the 2023-24 school year and beyond.

All new Grade 5 to Grade 9 regular program students who live in the community of Taradale will be directed to Sherwood School. This includes all Grade 5 to Grade 9 students who have submitted registration for Ted Harrison School through SchoolEngage for the 2023-24 school year and have not yet received confirmation of acceptance and all new registrations that are received today and beyond.

Why is this change happening?

There have been continuous registrations for Ted Harrison School at a rate higher than what is normally seen at the school. For this reason, the changes must be put in place to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

What is a call-back list?

If space becomes available in Ted Harrison School during the school year, that space will be offered to students on the call-back list who are currently attending the designated overflow school, Sherwood School. Sherwood School will notify them if a space becomes available. Students remain on the call-back list while they attend the designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the Ted Harrison School boundary or transfer from their designated overflow school.

Any new registrations received for the 2023-24 school year will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration.

The lottery process will be followed for Grade 5 to Grade 9 for the 2024-25 school year and beyond. For more details on how we determine priority, please visit our website.

How do I register for the 2023-24 school year?

Any new registrations after the date of this notice from students living in the Ted Harrison School designated boundary must still register for Ted Harrison School through SchoolEngage. Once these registrations have been received, the school will determine if there is space and resources available at Ted Harrison School. If the student cannot be accommodated, student information is transferred to their new overflow designation, Sherwood School. The student will be added to the call-back list for Ted Harrison School based on priority. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.

Is there transportation for students attending the designated overflow school?

Students are eligible for transportation to their designated school or overflow school if they live beyond the walk zone. Overflowed students will receive a transportation shuttle to and from Ted Harrison School and Sherwood School to start the school year. Bus stops and routes will be adjusted in mid-October to eliminate the shuttle and allow for more direct transportation to Sherwood School based on registrations received at that time.

In the CBE and across the city, we are experiencing a school bus driver shortage that may impact the mode of service provided. Please be assured that we are doing everything possible and working with our partners to restore reliability to transportation services.  Visit Busing & Transportation for more information or to register for transportation, visit MyCBE. Alternatively, families may use a paper form that is available on our website.
