September is rolling along and students are beginning to get in the swing of things, learning their locker combinations, finding their classes, getting to know their teachers and making friendships. As a school we have communicated to students the slogan, “You are a student first”. This means that students need to be in class, on time prepared for their lessons. We expect students to do their best each and everyday. This is what we mean at Ted Harrison School when we say,” You are a student first”. We have added sports teams, clubs, extracurricular activities that students can participate in after they have taken care of their classwork and are respectful of the school community.
You might have become aware on your students’ schedule that we have dedicated teachers in foods, construction and art this year. We believe that specialist teachers in these course have the ability to offer a more robust, rigorous, engaging program in these disciplines. As a result of the projects that grade 7/8/9 will be working on in these classes there will be a $25.00 fee attached. It is expected that school fees are paid. If a family has difficulty or concerns with paying these fees please reach out to the school principal or the classroom teacher.
Our soccer teams, basketball teams, cross country team are all up and running. Our cross country team has had it’s first meet and our student athletes performed well and represented Ted Harrison School with pride. Clubs such as robotics are getting started as well. I would encourage students to take advantage of the activities offered by Ted Harrison staff outside of class. I would as well encourage your student or the family to reach out and thank the school staff for offering these activities outside of their required hours.
It is important that students are at school on time. The school entry doors open at 7:50 AM. This gives students 10 minutes to get to their lockers and get ready for class. It is expected that students are in their classrooms at 8:00 AM. On days that the weather is cold or rainy it is expected that students not be dropped off at the front of the building or use the front doors of the school. We have multiple students that have extensive mobility issues so we reserve the front entrance so that staff are able to support these students. Students must dress for the weather and enter the school through the side or rear doors.
I look forward to meeting many families on Meet The Teacher Night September 26, 2024 Thursday from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This is an opportunity for your student(s) to bring families to the school to meet their teachers and see their classrooms and school. This is not parent/teacher conferences. If you desire to discuss your student specifically please reach out to teachers and organize a time outside of Meet The Teacher to have those conversations.
As always it is a pleasure to be the principal of Ted Harrison School. Please do not hesitate to reach out and connect with comments or questions that you might have.
Sincerely,
Dr. Don Barbor
