Wellness at Ted Harrison School
This year, as part of our school goals we are looking to develop and improve communication skills through the lens of Literacy, Numeracy, and Well-Being. The focus of our well-being goal is to empower our student’s ability to identify and use strategies to manage conflict. To do this, we are currently working to equip students with a variety of skills and strategies for conflict management through regular practice opportunities. These strategies include enhancing students’ vocabulary around emotions and their ability to name and notice their emotions. We are doing this through the use of tools like the Feelings Wheel and the Mood Meter. By supporting students to name and notice their emotions, they can begin to understand why they are feeling a certain way, and can then communicate their needs more effectively. We are also utilizing CBE’s Continuum of Behaviours framework as a tool to guide students’ understanding of differences between conflict, rude behaviours, mean and aggressive behaviours, and bullying. We have attached the different tools we are using with the students, and would encourage you to use them to help in the development of their emotional learning and conflict management skills.
